A self-contained garden annexe in Hertford providing independent living space for elderly parents — bedroom, shower room, and kitchenette within a single elegant building.
This Hertford project was driven by a familiar need: elderly parents moving closer to family while maintaining their independence. The garden annexe provides a self-contained living space with its own entrance, separate from the main house but close enough for daily contact.
The building is arranged as a studio annexe with a sleeping zone, compact kitchenette, and fully accessible shower room. A pitched roof with deep overhangs gives the structure a domestic character that sits comfortably beside the period property, while painted timber cladding in a soft sage green blends with the garden planting.
Accessibility informed every decision: level threshold at the entrance, wide doorways, a walk-in shower with grab rails, and underfloor heating throughout. The annexe is fully insulated and connected to mains services, making it a genuine year-round home rather than a seasonal retreat.
