Garden Room Studio Berkhamsted

A household in Berkhamsted wanted a dedicated garden room studio with consistent, shadow-free north light — something a spare room or converted garage could not provide. The garden offered the space and orientation for a self-contained garden room.

We designed a studio with a bank of north-facing roof lights spanning the full width of the building, supplemented by a high-level clerestory on the east elevation for early morning work. The walls are finished in a quiet neutral, and the floor is sealed concrete — durable, level, and straightforward to look after.

Beyond the lighting, the garden room includes built-in storage, a small kitchenette for longer days in the studio, and full insulation so the space is comfortable through winter. The black-stained timber exterior gives the building a quiet presence at the end of the garden.
