Cedar Garden Studio Harpenden
An elegant cedar-clad garden studio in Harpenden for a creative professional — generous glazing, refined finishes, and a space designed for inspiration.
Set in a generous Harpenden garden, this studio was commissioned by a textile designer who needed a dedicated creative space away from the distractions of the main house. The brief emphasised natural light, material quality, and a connection to the garden.
Western red cedar cladding was chosen for its warm tone and the way it silvers gracefully over time. A full-width glazing panel on the south elevation brings daylight across the work surface, while smaller high-level windows on the north side provide even, shadow-free illumination for detailed work.
Inside, the finishes are deliberately restrained: white oiled oak flooring, limewashed walls, and built-in storage along one elevation keep the studio calm and uncluttered. The glazing specification includes solar-control glass to prevent overheating in summer without sacrificing the views.
